Prolific Pre-workout Powder Supplement Review

Prolific Pre Workout Powder Supplement Review - featured image

PEScience, the company behind Prolific pre-workout, takes pride in its scientific approach to the research and development of its products. In doing so, it stays in the leadership position and sets the standards for excellence in the fitness supplements industry – or at least, that’s what PEScience says. We’re inclined to believe, nonetheless, considering its 10-year – and counting – track record and the enduring popularity of its products among fitness enthusiasts and professional athletes.

Among its bestselling products is the Prolific pre-workout supplement that PEScience touts as the last pre-workout you will ever need. For first-time users, it’s definitely a pre-workout that has a delicious flavor and mouth-feel, delivers on the boost in energy and focus every time, and has little of the side effects associated with many inferior pre-workouts. But that’s getting ahead of ourselves here!

What Is the Prolific Pre-Workout Powder Supplement?

PEScience markets Prolific pre-workout as a pre-workout powerhouse with its users at the receiving end of the full spectrum of workout experience. Increased energy and focus pushes muscle pump and exercise performance well past the usual experience, too!

There’s an emphasis on a strong, steady and smooth experience in terms of energy and focus, not the ups-and-downs that workouts without pre-workout consumption tend to be. Note that the Prolific pre-workout is a high-stim product, and that in itself has implications for its proper use and for its suitability for certain cohorts.

What Makes Prolific Pre-Workout Powder a Good Pre-Workout Supplement?

In every pre-workout review, we emphasize that there are three ingredients we consider the trifecta of pre-workout ingredients because of their synergistic effects on energy, focus and pump. These three ingredients and their clinically effective doses per serving, usually a single scoop, are L-citrulline (6-10 grams), beta-alanine (2-5 grams), and caffeine (250-350 milligrams).

Based on these aspects, let’s dig a little deeper into the active ingredients in Prolific pre-workout and their effects on the body. Note that the amount of ingredients in parenthesis are for two scoops.

If you’re a first-time user of Prolific pre-workout, you may want to start with a single scoop to allow your body to become accustomed to its ingredients. But it will mean getting half of the optimum dosage, thus, slowly increasing your tolerance and dosage is a must to get the full benefits of its consistent use.

The amino acid L-citrulline is among the safest and best boosters of muscle stamina, strength and power because of its effect on nitric oxide production. Since it’s a vasodilator, nitric oxide allows your blood vessels to widen and, thus, enable more oxygen and nutrients to flow into your cells including your muscles. This means increased muscle power and pumps, improved anaerobic performance, and decreased delayed onset muscle soreness.

Beta-alanine and betaine are often confused as being similar but it’s far from the truth, exercise-wise! While both are amino acids, beta-alanine aids in increasing the concentrations of carnosine in muscles and, thus, in delaying muscle fatigue. Betaine increases muscle protein synthesis that, in turn, results in significant increases in muscle strength and power.

But while betaine anhydrous has its place in pre-workouts, the absence of beta-alanine in Prolific pre-workout brings its efficacy in our opinion down a notch. L-citrulline and beta-alanine work more synergistically in our opinion.

Prolific pre-workout has two caffeine sources, thus, its high-stim pre-workout designation. First, the caffeine ingredient (320 milligrams) consists of caffeine anhydrous and dicaffeine malate. The combination means that with two scoops, you won’t experience a sudden crash midway during your intense workout.

This is because caffeine anhydrous has a fast-acting effect, meaning you will feel the boost in physical energy and mental focus almost as soon as you drink Prolific pre-workout. In contrast, dicaffeine malate has a long-lasting action that sustains the initial intense burst of energy and focus from caffeine anhydrous.

Both, however, are central nervous system stimulants that trigger the release of dopamine, noradrenaline and other neurotransmitters. The increased state of alertness and focus is the reason for caffeine’s inclusion in the best pre-workouts.

Second, the NeuroFactor ingredient (100 milligrams) is an extract of coffee fruit instead of the coffee bean, and it’s a patented extract with good research backing up its claims. At its core, NeuroFactor boosts the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) concentrations in the body that, in turn, promotes brain health. You can then stay motivated and focused on your exercises, and its benefits extend to your everyday activities, too (i.e., better cognitive function).

From these three major ingredients, it’s safe to say that Prolific pre-workout is a good product but it isn’t among the best pre-workouts in the market. Again, the absence of beta-alanine is the main reason for its less-than-stellar potential and performance in our books.

There’s also the fact that it takes two scoops to get the clinically effective doses for L-citrulline and caffeine. This isn’t such a good idea for beginners and for individuals with low caffeine tolerance – the 420 milligrams of total caffeine intake is well beyond the 350-milligram limit. But taking just one scoop means a low 210-milligram caffeine intake, meaning there’s less stimulant effect.

But it must also be emphasized that PEScience included a few more effective ingredients in the Prolific pre-workout that boosts its overall performance.

The organic compound taurine may not have specific performance-enhancing benefits but studies suggest that it works with caffeine in boosting mental alertness and concentration. Taurine may also aid in decreasing the severity of cramping and in increasing cellular water absorption, which boosts post-water recovery.

As an acetylcholine precursor, citicoline improves physical and mental performance, too. Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter involved in muscle contractions and cognitive functions, such as memory and learning.

This is also an amino acid, a building block of muscle-building proteins, but L-theanine’s actions are more focused on mood. Its inclusion in Prolific pre-workout means you’re in for a smoother ride – less swings in your mood associated with stimulant ingestion. You’re likely to enjoy a sense of calm, relaxation and motivation that will get your mind-body connection stronger.

L-theanine is also credited for decreasing the jittery feelings associated with high caffeine levels in the body. You will definitely need it considering the 420-milligram caffeine content in the full dosage of Prolific pre-workout!

This is an adaptogen that aids in decreasing the feelings of fatigue and stress, which are at higher-than-normal levels during intense workouts. By enhancing focus and mood, it’s an ingredient that works well with the stimulants in Prolific pre-workout without being a stimulant itself.

Prolific pre-workout can be stacked with the High Volume supplement, a nitric oxide-based product with zero caffeine. But stick to a single scoop of Prolific pre-workout when using it together with the High Volume supplement for optimum results.

Who Is Prolific Pre-Workout Powder Supplement Pre-Workout For?

Beginners, fitness enthusiasts and professional athletes will benefit from the regular and proper use of Prolific pre-workout. But their dosage will likely differ based on their caffeine tolerance and fitness goals.

Beginners, for example, may want to start with just a single scoop but compromise on the clinically effective doses for L-citrulline and caffeine. Fitness enthusiasts and professional athletes can start with the full 2-scoop dosage if they already have high caffeine tolerance, but a gradual increase is strongly recommended.

You may also want to consider switching to another pre-workout after a few weeks of Prolific pre-workout use to prevent adaptation. You will know it when the rise in energy, focus and pump are not as strong as they used to be.

What Are The Best Flavors of Prolific Pre-Workout Powder Supplement?

These are the available flavors of Prolific pre-workout:

We must emphasize that natural and artificial flavors are used, and this is quite disappointing considering the high standards by which PEScience takes pride in. But the flavors are true to their names, if slightly on the sweet side. If you’re looking for tartness that cuts through the sweetness, you may want to try Sour Green Apple or Sour Peach Candy. For a more refreshingly tropical flavor, go for the Mango Lemonade or the Tropical Twist.

Conclusion

Prolific pre-workout lives up to its name in terms of its target market and its effects on exercise performance. It’s an all-in-one pre-workout that does the job on its own and works just as well when stacked with other bodybuilding supplements. It’s intended for beginners and professional athletes alike, but its use will differ due to its high caffeine content.

Yes, there’s an increase in energy, focus and attention, and mood as soon as it’s taken as a drink (mixed with water), but there are downsides. Being jittery is one of them, and the increase in energy may not be as strong as with a pre-workout with beta-alanine in a clinically effective dose.

All in all, however, it’s a good pre-workout if you’re looking for one that you can cycle with your usual pre-workouts or as a starter pre-workout. But it isn’t the best pre-workout in our opinion – Shifted Maximum and Premium are!
